Bethel Woods Seating Chart, Lawn & Bag Policy

If you are looking at the Bethel Woods seating chart and wondering how the night will actually work, this guide pulls the venue's own published rules into one place: where you sit, what the lawn is like, whether you can bring a chair, what fits in a bag and what you can carry in to eat and drink. Everything here comes from the venue's official pages, each linked below with the date we last checked it. bethelnyhotels.com is an independent local guide and is not affiliated with Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, so when a rule matters to your plans, read the venue's page for your show.

The two kinds of seats

The Pavilion seats 4,500 under cover, with another 10,500 on a natural sloping lawn, according to the venue's Visit FAQs. Pavilion seats are assigned, and every guest in the Pavilion must hold a ticket. The lawn is general admission. That is the biggest difference between the two, and it shapes almost everything else in this guide.

Using the Bethel Woods seating chart

The venue publishes official seating charts for the Pavilion and for the Event Gallery on its Maps & Seating page, with options to view a large map or download one. The charts are images, and the page text does not list section names or numbers, so open the chart itself when you are choosing seats. We are not going to tell you which sections are best, because the venue does not say, and sight lines are a matter of taste and ticket price anyway.

One section detail is published in text. Wheelchair-accessible seating is at the back of sections 6 to 11 and 100, for the guest plus one companion, and those tickets are sold through Ticketmaster. The venue advises guests who need accessible seating to reserve in advance, because sold-out shows leave few options. Accessibility services have their own page on the venue's site at bethelwoodscenter.org/accessibility, and that is where to look for anything beyond what is listed here.

How Bethel Woods lawn seats work

The lawn is general admission and first come, first served. The seat number printed on a lawn ticket is only for the venue's inventory, so it does not reserve a spot (see the Pavilion FAQs). Plan to choose your place when you arrive. The venue says General Gates open approximately 90 minutes before show time, and the Member Gate opens approximately 30 minutes before that. Gate times vary by event, so check your show's page.

The venue also notes that guests may stand and dance at rock and contemporary concerts. If you are with a group, talk through where you will set up, because the lawn is shared space and the people around you may be on their feet.

Three comfort rules are published. Blankets are permitted on the lawn. Pillows up to 22 by 22 inches are allowed if they have no rods or other structural parts. Strollers are permitted on the lawn. Smoking is not allowed on the lawn, in the Pavilion or on the pathways, and the venue allows it only in the designated area at the top of the lawn hill. Pets are not allowed on the premises, although service animals are.

Bethel Woods chair rental: you cannot bring your own, but you can rent one

Personal lawn chairs are not permitted in the venue. The Pavilion FAQs and the venue's Guest Code of Conduct both say so. Instead, the venue rents chairs designed for the slope of the lawn. On the lawn chair rentals page, the posted rental price is $10.00 per chair, rising by $2.00 on the day of the show. You can reserve a chair at the Box Office or buy one online in advance, and you pick it up at the Lawn Chair Tent at the top of the lawn in Festival Plaza.

Rentals go on sale when lawn tickets do, and the venue says they are limited and can sell out like tickets, with day-of availability not guaranteed. If a chair matters to your night, buy it with your ticket. The same page says blankets, tarps and backless stadium-style cushions are allowed on the lawn.

The 2026 Season Lawn Pass included one free lawn chair rental per concert. That pass covered 2026 Pavilion shows only, and it did not include reserved parking or Member Gate entry. We have not seen a 2027 pass announced on the venue's pages, so do not plan around one until the venue publishes it.

The Bethel Woods bag policy

The Pavilion FAQs and the Guest Code of Conduct set out what you can carry in. Approved clear bags are plastic, vinyl or PVC and no larger than 12 by 6 by 12 inches. A one-gallon clear plastic freezer bag is allowed. A small clutch is also allowed, although the two pages describe it differently: the FAQs say a clutch goes inside one clear bag, and the Code of Conduct says no larger than 5.5 by 8.5 inches, palm size. If you are carrying one, read both pages and keep it small.

Not allowed are purses larger than a clutch, coolers, briefcases, luggage, computer bags, camera bags and any oversized bag. The Code of Conduct also lists backpacks. Every person and vehicle is subject to search, and the venue advises allowing extra time to get in. Express entry lanes are offered to guests who travel light.

If you need to bring a medically necessary item, the FAQs say it may be allowed after inspection, and ask guests to contact security at least 24 hours in advance at 845-583-2000.

Clear bags are sold at the Museum Shop, at the main gates on concert dates, in the parking lots and at the front gate merchandise tent. The venue notes that some events carry extra restrictions, including Event Gallery and Museum events, so check the page for your show.

Food, drink and the no re-entry rule

For Pavilion concerts, the venue allows one 1-gallon zip-style bag of food per person. For water, you can bring up to two factory-sealed plastic bottles of 20 ounces or less per person, plus one empty reusable non-metal bottle of 32 ounces or less. Outside alcohol is not allowed. Cans, glass bottles and metal bottles are not allowed either. The venue says some artists may set stricter rules.

There is a no re-entry policy at the venue. Plan to bring what you need for the night, and leave anything you will want later in your car or at your lodging. That is also a reason to think about where you are staying: if you are close, you can drop things off before gates, though you cannot come back out and back in.

What the venue does not publish

Some questions come up often, and the pages we read do not answer them: the number of lawn chairs available for a given show, the hours of the Lawn Chair Tent, a blanket size limit, a cooler size limit, and whether phones count as recording equipment. Treat any website or forum post that states these as fact with care, and ask the venue if it matters to your plans.
